These graphs should help break down some of the pitching matchups and provide some useful info for your bets. Five games are previewed here. What do all these graphs even mean? I break it down below.
Team stat data is based on performance from June 22 to July 22.
Pitcher data is based on performance throughout the year, minimum 40 innings.
Bullpen ERA is updated daily.
WRC+
What is WRC+? Interpretation: higher values = greater run likelihood. 100 is the league average.
PITCHER RUN VALUES
Higher number means stronger/better cumulative pitch mix, lower number means weaker/worse cumulative pitch mix
MATCH-UP GRAPHS
Stats are based on the opposing pitcher’s handedness, meaning, those team stats depend on if the starter is a RHP or LHP.
NEGATIVE VALUES
Hard hit rate low (pitcher doesn’t get hit as hard / opponent doesn’t hit hard) compared to league median (percent).
Groundball rate (pitcher doesn’t induce groundballs / opponent doesn’t bat into groundballs) compared to league median (percent).
K rate (pitcher doesn’t K batters or opponent doesn’t K at the plate) compared to league median (percent).
POSITIVE VALUES
Hard hit rate high (pitcher gets hit hard / opponent hits hard) compared to league median (percent).
Groundball rate (pitcher induces groundballs / opponent hits into groundballs) compared to league median (percent).
K rate (pitcher Ks batters frequently or opponent Ks frequently at the plate) compared league median (percent).
EXAMPLE:
Sandy Alcantara induces slightly more groundballs than the median, does not get hit hard, but does not K batters. Philly is middle of the pack groundball rate, hit hard, but have elevated K rate (June 22-July 22)
