Rays vs Orioles: The PrizePicks Play to Take in Camden Yards

Trey Gibson gets the start for the Orioles tonight in what has a chance to be a high-scoring affair in Baltimore. He has put together a decent season in the minors so far, pitching to a 3.69 ERA in 8 starts. He did come up to the majors for a brief stint where he started a game and came out of the pen for another appearance. In those appearances he gave up 4 ER in 6.2 IP so not great results but not horrible either on the surface.
The issue is with the hard contact. Gibson leaves a lot over the plate and it got hit hard in both games. It hasn’t been able to punish him in the minors but when you face guys like Aaron Judge, Ben Rice, and Shea Langeliers like Gibson did, it can hurt him now.
Enter Junior Caminero and the rest of the Rays. If there’s anyone in this lineup I’d trust against a pitcher like this who will throw a mistake pitch over the heart of the plate it’s Junior. Gibson has also had reverse splits this year, with RHB hitting .292 off him compared to the .253 of LHB. Mostly just sinker/slider/cutter to RHB, which when it’s an inconsistently located offspeed can just allow Junior to sit on the hard stuff. Depending on how long Gibson’s leash is, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Chris Bassitt piggyback him after. He’s just a 5.51 ERA pitcher with worse stuff and more slider usage. Not to mention the Rays lineup has seen him plenty.
He has struggled against the slider this year but the Orioles as a staff for whatever reason continue to feed him fastballs. He has started hunting them early in counts and yesterday was a prime example. He went 1 for 3 with a walk, and outside of that walk he saw only 4 pitches which were three fastballs put in play. Those three balls were 103, 117, and 106 MPH off the bat, yet only resulting in a mere single.
Perfect time to back Junior to find some green today, as this matchup screams XBH. Not to mention whether against Gibson, Bassitt, or a taxed Orioles bullpen, the hitters around Junior like Yandy, Aranda, and Simpson should also be in a good spot to spark up some offense. Today we ride out for 6.5 fantasy.
