Jaden Greathouse for $45,000

What a week 1 of college football. Honestly didn’t even have a great day on the books, so glad I had this to sweat out through some of the piss. But this is probably the first time I’ve left a square for the next day in the 6 man, and I’m so in on that. Obviously not many chances to do it since I think Week 1 has the only Sunday games we get all year but you get the point. But wild ride to get through the first 5…

The first green square was Oran Singleton. The first play of Tulsa’s second drive was a 56-yard bomb to Singleton, so there was really no sweat there. I’m a Tulsa slurper and investor this year and even though I was scared of this game and didn’t stand on business betting them +13.5 (still kicking myself for that), I’ll be taking Oran a lot while sweating the fellas. Finished with 4 catches for 99 yards, he might be goated.

Mason McKenzie was next up and what a crazy sweat this was. I bet on Boston College and god what a terrible wager that was. But McKenzie was the only reason they weren’t down 50. Missed a few downfield throws that would’ve made the sweat a lot easier but him escaping D-Linemen and running 16 times for 73 yards was huge. They got shutout in the 1H, had a baffling call taking a TD off the board, and got McKenzie drilled play after play. He left the game after a targeting call and somehow came back not concussed. He got hurt again late in the game holding his ankle like he snapped it in half. And somehow got left out there in garbage time for a crazy cash. I was so convinced it was cake in the late 4th quarter sequence that I placed the remaining 4 squares again to have something to sweat. Insane.

Then we got to the night slate. Not much to say about Sam Leavitt rush yards, he pretty much tripled his demon line. I didn’t really understand the line given how much we know Lane let Chambliss run. And Leavitt is arguably a better runner than he is. His normal line was around 20.5 which felt like a pocket passer line. Probably never gonna see that line again.

Then we made our way to Berkeley. It’s always nice when JKS’s biggest highlight of the night is a pass going to your WR. Crazy throw from his own endzone on a hurt ankle led to a 49-yard shot to Ian Strong which all but turned him green. He got a few catches after that to seal it and end with 5 catches for 94 yards. We’ll also be betting on him a ton this season.

Then we finished the night on the island with Jai’Den Thomas. What a gut-wrenching sweat this was. I can’t complain about Jackson Arnold running because it's not like we didn’t know that going in, but for the first three quarters it was a bit frustrating. But Thomas got going a bit in the second quarter and went into half with 49 yards, on a good pace. But then Hawaii comes out and milks the entire 3rd quarter clock. They hold the ball for 12 minutes (for only 3 points btw) and UNLV only runs 6 plays in the entire quarter. I knew he’d be used to close the game with them up but figured Arnold would mooch his carries too much at that point.

Then UNLV gets the ball back with 5 mins left, and off goes Thomas on the first play of the drive for 50. Unreal.

So now we get to known goat Jaden Greathouse. Missed a majority of last season with injuries but is healthy coming into this year and ready to go. And as we saw in the CFP 2 years ago, he can be explosive when healthy. He comes into what should be a more pass-heavy Notre Dame offense this year too. I’m an Aneyas Williams respecter but this is still an Irish offense replacing two 1st round RBs. CJ Carr is a dog and the lack of explosiveness downfield is what killed them in early season games against Miami and Texas A&M last year. ND found success with Greathouse in that playoff run drawing up bunch concepts to get him downfield out of the slot. Against a Wisconsin defense that will give them some man coverage looks and struggled to get pressure on the QB last year, I think it’s the perfect spot for him to show up.

Tonight is where he returns with a bang. With everything on the line. Legacies can be defined in Lambeau Field.
