Lets break down my 3 favorite plays on the MLB board today + some bonus hot dudes.
The New York Yankees are 4-12 since June 18, and they really look like a team that misses Aaron Judge. The Twins put up 11 runs yesterday, including five home runs, and if you’ve learned anything from reading my articles, it’s that I like to ride a hot team and a hot bat. The Twins have plenty of both.
Not to mention, this is the only game in the series where they’ll have the pitching advantage, with Joe Ryan going against Ryan Weathers.
The Pick: Twins ML
Bonus Play: Kody Clemens HR + HRR
It wasn’t tough to find the hot dude here. Kody Clemens has homered in three straight games and has seven hits and seven runs over his last four games. To say he’s been everywhere is an understatement.
The St. Louis Cardinals have been one of the surprise teams of the year. I don’t think many people expected this team to be eight games above .500 approaching the All-Star break.
One thing we know about the Chicago Cubs is they can win and lose games in bunches. After hanging 22 runs in the finale against San Diego, I would not be remotely surprised to see them get swept at home. The Cubs have Assad on the bump, who is 6-1 but has certainly been getting hit. He’s just been the beneficiary of some very solid run support. I think the Cardinals finish off the sweep today at Wrigley.
The Pick: Cardinals ML
Bonus Play: JJ Wetherholt HR + HRR
Wetherholt has six hits in his last three games, including a homer yesterday.
No one’s talking about it, but the Miami Marlins are FUN. They’re 12-4 in their last 16 games and very much in the Wild Card picture in a crowded National League.
Today they’ll try to complete the sweep of the Athletics, and I think they get it done. Like so many MLB teams, they’re inconsistent. When they’re good, they’re really good, with some of the best bats in baseball. When they’re bad, they’re really bad, and the pitching can look like some of the worst in the league.
I’ll take the Fish to stay hot and the A’s to stay cold.
The Pick: Marlins ML
Bonus Play: Otto Lopez HR + HRR
Otto Lopez—a man who is somehow still wearing a Toronto Blue Jays hat in his Google photo—is very much a Marlin, and he’s also very much one of the hottest hitters in baseball.
Last 10 Games: 18 hits, 7 RBIs, 3 HRs, and 9 runs scored.
BONUS HOT DUDE(S)
Junior Caminero and Yordan Alvarez put on an absolute SHOW in yesterday’s 10-8 game.
Junior homered in the top of the first, Yordan answered with a homer in the bottom of the first, and then capped it all off with a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth.
Look for both of these dudes to stay hot.
