Against all odds, it is August 10th, and I am still betting MLB—which is the longest I have ever lasted into a baseball season in my entire illustrious gambling career.

Today, I have FOUR plays for the people, and they’ll be “JUICY.” They call me Steaky Alts for a reason. (No one calls me that.)

Game 1: Phillies at Cardinals

The Phillies are 9-13 since the All-Star break, and just about every Andrew Painter and Aaron Nola start goes exactly the way you’d think it would so why would today be any different?

The Cardinals have been mediocre since the All-Star break as well, but they’re young, fiery, and only 3.5 games out of a wild-card spot. Hunter Dobbins has also been better than Painter by a large margin. If the Cardinals win this game, I don’t think it’ll be that close.

The play: St. Louis Cardinals -1.5 (+185)

Game 2: Red Sox at Blue Jays

This one is just a good, old-fashioned contrarian line-read attempt—and that doesn’t work all that much in baseball, but I am a sucker anyway.

The Red Sox have been the best team in baseball, and Sonny Gray is their ace, yet the line opened at -173 and has moved all the way down to -154???

The Blue Jays are pitching Jameson Taillon, who hasn’t put together anything worth talking about in months. I think the Red Sox come down to earth a bit after dropping back-to-back games to the lowly Athletics.

The pick: Blue Jays ML (+143)

Game 3: Orioles at Twins

Dean Kremer pitches against his former team tonight, and let me tell you about a guy who doesn’t have a revenge game in his bag: His name is Dean Kremer.

The Twins have had a fun year, but they’ve lost three series in a row, and I think it’s time for them to go ahead and wrap this season up.

The play: O’s -1.5 (+160)

Game 4: Mets at Braves

Hey, look It took a while, but the Mets are finally hot, scoring 53 runs in six games.

There is no team I could see truly getting hot more than the Mets once they’re already completely out of contention and all of their fans have, once again, completely given up every last sliver of hope.

Plus, I think the Mets have the pitching advantage here, so a plus price is not something I am willing to pass up.
