t’s August 3rd. Football is on the horizon. I flirted with the idea of taking some time off to get my mental right, but at the end of the day, I am a degenerate, and I’m gonna do the complete opposite.
I’m going to bet every single game on the MLB board today.
Game 1: Nationals @ Phillies
The Nationals were sellers at the deadline, and while I understand it’s tough when you play in the NL East—where your pitching is nowhere near good enough to keep you competitive in one of the better divisions in baseball—I’m still sad about it.
But that means nothing today.
I expect the Nationals to show us something they’ve shown all damn year long: HEART. There’s still plenty of meat left on the bone in this lineup to blow up the king of mid, Aaron Nola.
Give me the Nationals ML.
Game 2: Cardinals @ Yankees
It is getting down to the nitty-gritty in the AL Cy Young race. One hundred games in, Cam holds an ever-so-slight edge over Dylan Cease, and every start counts more than ever.
So I’ll be buying into that narrative.
Give me a Cam Schlittler masterclass.
Give me Yankees -2.5.
Game 3: Pirates @ Brewers
No shot the Brewers’ bats follow up that stinker with Mis on the mound with another stinker against Bubba Chandler…
Right????
WRONG.
Another stinker incoming for the Brew Crew bats.
Give me the Pirates -1.5.
Game 4: Giants @ Rangers
There’s really no reason to like the Giants here. They were sellers at the deadline, sending away Robbie Ray and Luis Arraez.
But I’m testing out a theory: betting the sellers in their first game after the deadline.
Tonight we get Logan Webb vs. Cal Quantrill, who has overperformed this year, but we still have the pitching advantage.
Give me the Giants ML.
Game 5: Dodgers @ Cubs
Here’s an extensive write-up for you guys on this game:

Give me the Cubs -1.5.
Yeah, I said -1.5.
Sue me.
Game 6: Blue Jays @ Astros
I don’t truly know if the Blue Jays were sellers or buyers, to be honest. One of the more confusing trade deadlines from a casual standpoint.
But I do know, either way, they have not been very good.
The Astros have been—as much as it pains me to admit.
And around here, we ride hot dudes and hot teams.
Give me the Astros -1.5.
Game 7: Rays @ Rockies
The Rays were buyers at the deadline, acquiring Liam Hicks from the Marlins and Freddy Peralta from the rat piss Mets, and I’m happy for them.
But the bats are ice cold, scoring two runs in an entire series against the sexy White Sox and not doing all that much against the Rangers in the series before that.
The Rockies, on the other hand, are hot, scoring 23 runs in their sweep of the Royals.
Give me the Rockies ML.
Game 8: Padres @ D-backs
The Padres were buyers at the deadline, and the D-backs stayed put for the most part.
Both teams are a few games over .500 and fighting for a Wild Card spot.
Back to the well with fading the buyers at the deadline.
Give me the D-backs -1.5.
