A Nightmare Before South Bend? North Carolina Could Give Miami a Scare

No. 1 Miami heads to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on Halloween in what could be a spooky matchup for the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes are 7-0 and have dominated nearly every game they've played, with the exception of Week 7, where they narrowly escaped with a double-overtime victory over Florida State. 

Bill Belichick would love nothing more than to play spoiler to Miami's season and upset the No. 1 team in the nation. Is that a tough ask? Absolutely. However, we've already seen this North Carolina team compete against a top talented opponent just earlier this month when they hosted Notre Dame. The Tar Heels entered that matchup as 21-point underdogs but covered with ease, losing by just 11 points in a 37-26 Irish victory.    

Why could a potential upset or close game happen this week? The spot. 

Miami heads to South Bend, Indiana, to take on Notre Dame next week in what is arguably the biggest game of the college football season. With the drama surrounding Notre Dame missing out on the College Football Playoff last season after losing to Miami, and with the Fighting Irish already having a loss to BYU on their résumé this season, Notre Dame finds itself in a must-win scenario next week. Miami knows this. The Hurricanes also know they are heavy favorites to win the ACC and are basically a lock to make the CFP, with live odds sitting at -4000.  

Are Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes going to take this North Carolina squad seriously? Of course. With that being said, how motivated can you be to play a 4-3 Tar Heel squad on the road when you have a bounty on your head from one of the largest brands in college football next week?
