The Weirdest College Football Spread of the Season

Kennesaw State just moved up to the FBS level in 2024. After a horrid 1-8 start, they fired their coach that brought them from the FCS to FBS level, and have since hired Jerry Mack to replace both their original and interim coach from 2024.

In 2025, the Owls took off. They went 7-1 in their conference, and 10-4 overall. It was an unbelievable breakout year for Kennesaw State. Unfortunately for the Owls, 2026 hasn't treated them nearly as well. 

Kennesaw State won their first game of the season against West Georgia, an FCS program. Since then, the Owls haven't won a single game. They have yet to win a single FBS game this season, and are currently sitting at 1-6. They had so much hype before the season, too. They brought in former LSU/Syracuse QB Rickie Collins, but he simply hasn't found his stride yet. Tonight's matchup on paper doesn't get any easier for Rickie, either. 

Their opponent tonight, Middle Tennessee State, is coming off two massive Conference USA wins. Two weeks ago they beat Delaware, the best offense in the conference. Last week they beat FIU on the road outright as 10.5 point underdogs. FIU was the hottest team in the conference until MTSU beat them on their home turf. Coming off that win, Middle Tennessee now sits at 4-3 this season. They are in 3rd place, in a really good spot early on in conference play. You'd probably imagine this Middle Tennessee team would be favorites against this putrid, 1-6 Kennesaw State team, right? Well, I've got news for you...

Somehow, someway, the Kennesaw State Owls are favorites on the road tonight against 4-3 Middle Tennessee State. I haven't seen a spread this weird all season, and I can't figure out why the Owls are now favorites on the road. They initially opened up +2.5 underdogs on the spread, but have since moved to -1.5 betting favorites in this one. I can't figure out for the life of me why the Owls are now the betting favorites. I've looked into injuries, benchings, or any potential fluke shit that would lead to this spread moving, and I can't figure out anything. To be completely honest with you, I genuinely think the books are expecting the Kennesaw State team from last season to appear on the field tonight, and that's a side I want to be on. 

This is the weirdest spread I've seen all college football season. Kennesaw State has no business being a favorite against anyone right now, especially when they are on the road against a solid Middle Tennessee State team. Let's take the nastiest CFB wager of the year and back Kennesaw State to do what the books think they are going to do, win. I'll meet you at the cash counter when the Owls win with ease on Wednesday night.
