Last night, the Reds had a crazy comeback win in the second game of a doubleheader against the Cardinals. The Cardinals blew the save, and Elly De La Cruz hit the walk off for the Reds. These two teams face off again tonight, and I’m willing to bet the Reds carry their momentum from last night into today.
The Reds have the starting pitching advantage in this one, with Andrew Abbott taking the ball against Kyle Leahy. Abbott has been hittable of late, but I’m willing to bet he bounces back on Tuesday against a Cardinals lineup that is nothing to fear. Abbott might have the higher ERA, but he is a significantly better arm than Leahy. Buy low on Abbott, and sell high on Leahy.
The Reds might be out of the playoff race, but their bats are still hitting. With no pressure, I want to back the Reds against a Cardinals team that is still fighting for a Wildcard spot. Pressure typically results in negative performances, and the Cardinals are a team I want to fade down the stretch.
Cincinnati barely opened up as underdogs against a Cardinals team who the public thinks is a better squad. I think these teams are fairly even, and I’ll take a stab at the Reds at plus money. Instead of taking a full game wager, let’s isolate the F5 and back Abbott to outperform Leahy early on. That way we don’t need to involve the sketchy Reds bullpen in this wager.
I’ll meet you at the cash counter after the Reds are winning through five innings. This is one of the sharpest MLB plays on the slate; let’s cash.
