The Tampa Bay Rays are the play to cash on the moneyline this afternoon at -115 against the Toronto Blue Jays. Tampa Bay enters as the AL East leaders at 59-42, riding strong momentum and dominating this season series 8-1 overall. They’ve already outscored Toronto significantly in the first three games of this set. The Blue Jays sit at a dismal 46-56, mired in a four-game losing skid and looking like a shell of their recent competitive selves.
Casey Legumina opens for the Rays, with Ian Seymour handling the bulk. Seymour (6-2, 4.79 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 79 K in 67.2 IP) relies on a nasty changeup and mix of offspeed stuff that plays up against righty-heavy lineups. While he’s had some rough recent traditional starts, the opener/bulk plan limits his exposure and leverages Tampa’s deep, analytics-driven bullpen. The Rays have excelled in these flexible deployments all year.
On the other side, Shane Bieber (1-1, 5.70 ERA) starts for Toronto after tossing six scoreless innings with six strikeouts against the White Sox in his latest outing. That shutout performance is encouraging for a veteran working his way back from injury, but it’s also the exact spot to fade him. Bieber’s underlying numbers remain concerning (high WHIP around 1.73, limited innings, and vulnerability to hard contact). Coming off a strong outing often creates artificial confidence and inflated lines, especially against a Rays lineup that ranks top-tier in on-base skills and exploits mistakes. Veteran starters in rebuild-adjacent spots like this frequently regress to their season means.
Toronto’s offense has been a major disappointment all season and shows no signs of snapping out of it overnight. The Jays rank near the bottom in runs, home runs, and OPS compared to prior years, with a weak .241-ish team batting average and struggles producing against lefties and bullpens. Injuries have decimated depth, and their recent form (3-7 in last 10, outscored badly) highlights a team lacking identity and firepower. Rogers Centre hasn’t bailed them out enough.
Tampa Bay’s lineup is clicking better overall, and their bullpen depth should close this out effectively after Seymour’s bulk. At -115, the Rays offer excellent value as the sharper, better-oriented team in a spot where regression continues to hit the Blue Jays hard. Expect Tampa to grind out a low-scoring win and push their series sweep. Take the Rays on the moneyline, I’ll meet you at the cash counter after they sweep the Blue Jays this afternoon.
