We are a day removed from the PGA Championship and I have some thoughts. First off, I love major championship golf. The coverage, tweets, banter, all of it. Nothing gets people going more like championship golf.
I will start with Scottie as I bet a lot of money on him this weekend and I mean a lot. Sadly when I looked back on it Scottie barely lost me any money because I used him a lot of greasers vs David Puig but nonetheless I have some things to say. He was an all time brutal watch this week. Aside from Thursday he was genuinely unwatchable. Watching him putt was like watching a 25 HDCP putt, it was genuinely pathetic. It was the first time Scottie had led a major and then went on to lose. Awful week to be a Scottie guy.
Now we are onto the winner of the PGA Championship and that was Aaron Rai. What a week from Aaron Rai but more importantly it was one hell of a Sunday. A 65 where he absolutely ran away with this tournament. Aaron Rai seemed to upset everyone including my wife by winning this tournament. Nobody was rooting for him and it couldn’t be more obvious if you were on twitter or watching the broadcast Sunday night. I for one am happy for him and think he was the only one who showed up Sunday. He balled out and deserved every part of that win.
Now let me get into the tournament as a whole or at least Sunday. This tournament fucking SUCKED, genuinly one of the most boring tournaments I have ever had the displeasure of watching. It lacked aura as the kids say all weekend but me and everyone else were hoping that all went away with a packed leaderboard on a Sunday. Instead we got Aaron Rai walking to an easy win. Every superstar crumbled and played not only a bad game but a safe and uneventful game. Rory, Scottie, Rahm, Ludvig all fell apart and failed to hit a single golf shot that wowed us. This is known as the worst major and it delivered. Terrible course to have this event at and it showed. This was the worst major in a decade and I need the US Open to save it and deliver a banger.
