I remember the Capitals' Stanley Cup run like it was yesterday. That was the first championship I got to experience for any of the Washington DC teams I root for, and it was special. People were passing around handles of liquor and the streets of DC were completely filled with Caps fans. Celebrating their Stanley Cup victory was one of the coolest moments of my sports fandom, and none of it would have been possible without Alexander Ovechkin.
There aren't many athletes who have been at the top of their game and are considered a "great" of their respective sport for longer than Alexander Ovechkin has. He has been one of the best hockey players on the planet for over two decades, but what's impressive is that even after all this time, he is still a productive piece of the Capitals offense at the age of 41. Tonight, he takes the ice at home for his final season opener at Capital One Arena against his rival Sidney Crosby.
You know what's about to happen. Ovi will get some serious TV time before puck drop, and they will gas up him and the Capitals before they get smoked on national TV for everyone to see. These aren't games the Caps typically win, unfortunately. I will be on the Penguins moneyline as an emotional hedge in this one, along with fading this nasty PrizePicks square that looks like the easiest "more than" you can click on the app.
