My Thoughts on the JJ McCarthy Trade

That tweet that you just read is the tweet I sent moments after we drafted JJ McCarthy with the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. I was furious with our front office. We drafted a guy who frankly showed nothing during his time at Michigan to be taken that high in the draft. This is not a blog to gloat and to say I was right even though I was extremely right and usually am. This is a blog to discuss the trade as he is no longer a Minnesota Viking. 

JJ McCarthy was a horrible QB for the Minnesota Vikings and that I won’t argue, he was not good but if we’re being honest giving up on him and trading him after 10 games is the wrong decision. I don’t care who wanted him and who didn’t. You don’t just give up on a kid after very few games. As bad as he’s looked I wouldn’t say it’s any worse than what I have seen out of Carson Wentz or Kyler Murray. Both of those guys have looked horrendous all year and all of last year yet here we are. We got a 5th round pick for someone who was taken in the top 10 of their draft class. This would be the worst draft of all time if they didn’t end up drafting Dallas Turner five picks later. 

JJ McCarthy seemed to struggle with the speed of an NFL game. The game was too fast for his decision making and he would make some of the most bonehead plays you have ever seen but then he would make a play that would make you realize why he was a 1st rounder. He has a long way to go and I think he has a chance to resurrect his very young career. Do I think it happens in NY tho? No, if you can’t win with KOC, JJ & Jordan Addison then I don’t see you winning with a far less talented team in the Giants. I will be wishing him the best and I hope he cooks somewhere. The Vikings royally fucked this entire thing up and they knew that from the start.
