Every fantasy football draft, there's a big-name player who's ADP falls because of injury concern or a crazy offseason story. This year, it's without a doubt Josh Jacobs. Nobody knows where to take him, and he's falling in almost everyone's fantasy draft. Well, let me give you my thoughts on this situation, along with my general gameplan for players like this every year.
This Josh Jacobs situation isn't good, and I'm no longer a fan of him. I need to make that perfectly clear before I talk about what I would do in fantasy football. Again, this is fantasy, not real life, and I prefer to win my made-up leagues and like giving myself the best possible chance to every year. Here is what I typically do with players like Josh Jacobs, whether it's a sketchy injury to an elite player or a weird off the field legal situation.
Almost every time a star player is hurt of in some legal trouble like Jacobs, he falls in his fantasy draft. Wait for the star player to fall a couple rounds, and then snag him up and put him on your IR or bench for the season. People are too afraid of what could happen, instead of realizing they can get an elite player super late in their draft at great value and have him in their starting lineup down the stretch and for the playoffs.
More often than not, a situation like this ends up playing out quicker than initially expected. Although it might not be morally right, and I don't agree with it. I'm sure the Packers are doing whatever they can to get Josh Jacobs back on the field as soon as possible. I'm even hearing they are denying seeing the video evidence (although we all know that's a lie), and they just got his court hearing moved up two months.
Nobody wants to draft Josh Jacobs because of the uncertainty, but he could be a valuable asset for your team down the stretch and in the playoffs. As much of a scumbag as he is, typically these situations get resolved quicker than initially expected.
Whether it's a stud player who has an uncertain injury, or a player with some off the field issues, drafting and stashing these guys later in the draft can help you win your league.
