Can the Timberwolves Do the Damn Thing?

Now anyone who is reading this who knows me knows I’m not the biggest fan of the NBA and am certainly not a fan of watching any second of it but I have been tapped in the last couple of days and I have some questions. I know enough ball to know what a winning team looks like and what they need to win it all and I am so confused how Minnesota doesn’t fit this criteria with Ant back. Losing Divencenzo was absolutely heartbreaking but all that has dome is given a stronger role to Terrance Shannon Jr, who might be better. This team is constructed to win an NBA Championship right now and here's why: 

First, defense travels in the playoffs, and Minnesota has an elite one. With Rudy Gobert anchoring the paint and a swarm of long, switchable defenders around him, they can shut down multiple styles of offense. Teams that rely on rim pressure struggle against Gobert, and teams that shoot a lot of jumpers get chased off the line. This has turned out to be one of the best trades Minnesota has made in a long time. That kind of versatility matters in a seven-game series.

Then there’s Anthony Edwards, the biggest reason they can win it all. He’s already shown he can take over playoff games against elite competition, and he’s trending toward true superstar status. Every championship team needs a guy who can create offense when everything breaks down, and Edwards is becoming that guy fast if he isn’t already.

Depth is another quiet strength. Players like Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid give them flexibility, defense, scoring bursts, and lineup versatility. Am I crazy to say that they are the greatest role players if you can even call them that in NBA history? You match all of that fire power with Big Julius Randle and you have a perfect team to match up with the beasts of the West. 

Nothing about this Spurs team scares me if I’m a Minnesota fan. You want me to be scared of Dearon Fox? Stephon Castle? I’m sorry but I could care less about either of those scrubs. They’re getting past this Spurs team and will have a chance at revenge vs OKC. I think now is a great time to buy into the Minnesota Timberwolves.
